2nd European Symposium on Laminar/Turbulent Transition in Hypersonic Regime : Bordeaux (France) from 4th to 6th October 2023

Organized by the HyFAR-ARA association and supported by specialists from ArianeGroup, CEA, DLR, ESA, INRIA, MBDA, ONERA, Purdue University, Southampton University, Technical University of Munich and VKI

The switch between laminar and turbulent flow in the boundary layer around objects in flight is an everlasting concern since the beginning of the aerospace era. Heat fluxes on flying vehicles, drag, aerodynamic performances, controls response, all of these are impacted by the transition between the two regimes and the consequences on design, reliability and costs may be huge.

Many has been performed on subsonic vehicles, driven by commercial transport needs. Supersonic and hypersonic vehicles have not been excluded from studies on the subject either : famous pioneering works come to the mind such as those by Tollmien, Schlichting, Schubauer, Skramstadt, Mack, and so much more.

The subect of hypersonic vehicles has nevertheless become more acute and has been granted growing attention since a few years, due to the implementation of numerous hypersonic vehicles projects around the world.

When addressing hypersonic regime transition, some unique physical phenomena appear, calling for new analysis, tests, prediction and design tools. The 2nd European Symposium on Laminar/Turbulent Transition in Hypersonic Regime is designed to address the very specific problems of these ultra-high velocity flows, bringing world wide specialists to discuss their works and share their respective visions of their future tasks and investigations.
