From FAR2022 to FAR2025
In May 2025, ESA and HyFAR-ARA will co-organize the 3rd International Conference on Flight Vehicles, Aerothermodynamics and Re-entry (FAR 2024). The conference will take place in Palais des Congrès of Arcachon (France). More information : conference website
About FAR
The International Conference on Flight Vehicles, Aerothermodynamics and Re-entry (FAR) is an international event organized by the European Space Agency (ESA) in conjunction with other global space Agencies and institutional partners, including the HyFAR-ARA association (HyFAR-ARA), the Centre National d’Études Spatiales (CNES), the Commissariat à l’énergie atomique et aux énergies alternatives (CEA) and the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft und Raumfahrt (DLR)..
The FAR conference aims at providing space agencies, companies, organizations, universities and research institutes with a forum of excellence in the area of flight vehicle engineering, aerothermodynamics, and re-entry missions.
The conference encompasses the whole spectrum of flying vehicles for suborbital, orbital and exploration applications, including upper stages, (re)-entry, expendable, and reusable vehicles. Concurrently, FAR aims to highlight recent advances in simulation and analysis tools, on-ground and in-flight experimental capabilities, hardware and technology developments related to fluid mechanics and demonstrators enabling the realization of these flight vehicles.
FAR 2022
The 1st FAR conference was held in 2019 in Bari, Italy (FAR2019).
The 2nd edition of the conference was held in June 2022 in Heilbronn, Germany (FAR2022). The HyFAR-ARA association was one of the sponsors of this edition , and several of its members’ personnel presented their work and contributed to the technical committee.
This edition gathered more than 300 participants. Over 200 papers were presented and about 30 posters were exposed.

During the closure event of FAR2022, the selection by ESA of Arcachon (France) to host the next edition (2025) was announced by the HyFAR-ARA President.

This edition is scheduled from May 18th 2024 to May 22td 2025 and will take place in Arcachon, a city on the Atlantic shore 60 km west from Bordeaux (France). |
There, the Palais des congrès will host the conference with its 500 seats auditorium, its 500 m2 adjustable Salle des ambassadeurs and 10 other meeting rooms (see video below).
The Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, of which Arcachon is one of many cities, has a galore of points of interest where you may find opportunities to extend your stay : sunny beaches, world famous wineyards, historical sites, as well as less known but enchanting destinations for the curious visitors.

But beyond that, the Nouvelle Aquitaine Region is a place of excellence in aeronautics, space systems and defence technology, that hosts some major companies in those fields.
